Resurrection Missions 2024 Year in Review

by Global Methodist Church on December 19, 2024

It has been said that at nearly 2-years old, our young church acts much older than it is when it comes to its mission impact. As a year in review, here are just some of the reasons why that’s true:

January The initial committee forms and several recurring mission opportunities start a new year on a firm foundation established in the fourth quarter of 2023, including 7X Rescue anti-trafficking phone outreach ministry and Resurrection Rice with a goal of collecting 1000 pounds per month for KCM.

February The Resurrection Missions team holds its very first committee meeting Feb. 8 to begin the planning process. The committee designates lay leaders to oversee the mission partners/ministries chosen. A draft plan provides a foundation for the members to build upon and refine.

March Resurrection adds a Missions page to its website. Talks to explore a potential opportunity to partner with Christ Clinic and St. Paul’s begin. Children’s Ministries donates 60 Bunny Bags to The Landing in honor of Easter.

April Resurrection Rice reaches the 1,000 pounds of rice benchmark for the first time, and consistently continues to deliver for KCM. The Veteran’s ministry identifies former and current service personnel in our congregation and builds a contact list; members of this team research local opportunities to support veterans like Memorial Day ceremony, VFW Fourth of July picnic and need for missing/replacement headstones for veterans in the Katy Magnolia Cemetery.

May Resurrection commits to launching an evening clinic in partnership with St. Paul’s and Christ Clinic and begins to further research division of responsibilities between the parties.

June Resurrection Church hosts its first Joint Mission Sunday uniting the English and Spanish services in a common missions goal, resulting in 800 snack sacks packed in an hour to benefit The Landing. Missions team members branch out to explore senior care options in our community, researching local nursing and elder care homes with the intent of initiating an outward senior care ministry. Resurrection Rice sets a new record, collecting 1,901 pounds of rice this month!

July Representative from Resurrection’s mission team attend the VFW July 4th picnic in honor of local vets and promote our Veterans Ministry. Other members meet with Amazing Place representatives to learn about their West Campus opening in Katy in January 2025 and possible ways our church can support the Alzheimer’s/Dementia Drop-in Care center with volunteers in 2025 and beyond.

August The church rallies to provide 80 backpacks filled with new school supplies to benefit the children of clients at The Landing just in time for the start of school!

September Children’s Ministry mission team returns to the KISD elementary campuses to read and sing, as well as support the staff and teachers throughout the year with teacher treats. Of special note, our congregation supports special needs by sponsoring needed supplies, as well as the adding the first junior high, Katy Junior High, to the School ministry recipient roster.

October Resurrection Church enters a float in the Katy Rice Festival and shares fans donated by the missions team among other giveaway items. Rescue America reports that our 7X Rescue made a total 1,475 calls for the year, which accounts for 8 exits – women who courageously exited the life and have a second chance at freedom! Participants collectively serve 300 hours towards this mission this year.

November RCK Veteran’s ministry creates a photo slide show in honor of our veterans to share in worship. We launch our multi-pronged Advent mission “Stuff the Holidays campaign” with the KCM “Stuff the Pantry” food drive for holiday favorites, including instant mashed potatoes, stuffing and cranberry sauce, and of course some Resurrection Rice too. 7X Rescue writes notes of encouragement and sends cards to survivors in Rescue America partner homes. Christ Clinic announces that our clinic will launch in February 2025 and training will begin in January.

December Our “Stuff the Holidays” Advent mission continues as the hunt for Christmas tree cakes follows with our Children’s Ministry team delivering more than 1,450 cakes to 7 Katy area schools. We also bless 30 survivors and their children with the Landing Angel Tree gift drive, collecting an estimated $500 in gift wrapping supplies. Additionally, we collect 125 $5 gift cards for use in the 7X Rescue stocking stuffer mission that benefited 81 trafficked survivors currently in Rescue America partner homes on their journey to freedom! Resurrection Rice closed out the year with a whopping 12,286 total pounds of rice, 2,992 pounds of “other food” for a GRAND total of 15,278 pounds of food to our local food pantry.
