Small Groups have one, simple purpose - to bring people together. We believe God created us to live in community with others and only then can we experience the full life He intends for us. We believe life change happens in the context of relationships.
Groups meet in a variety of places like homes, parks, restaurants, coffee shops and office buildings. Location is what works best for each group. It is not mandatory that you host in your home. In the form to join a group, we ask if you are willing to open your home up to hosting. Some groups have one home that desires to host all gatherings and other groups have a rotation of homes to gather in.
A typical gathering will last around 90 minutes. There will be a time of gathering around food, the lesson, the practice and prayer. As we look at Scripture, we believe Jesus spent a lot of time with strangers, friends and family around a table. Gatherings start with food, whether that be simple snacks, ordering pizza or a full meal. Then we move into our time of our discussion, which includes a guide with the lesson and the practical ways we can live it out. Finally, we end in a time of taking prayer requests and prayer for the group.
Our team collects information from the form you fill out and creates the group for you. This group formation is based on when you can meet, the frequency of meetings, where you live and other components on the form to join a group.
At Resurrection Church, we use a free market approach to Small Groups. This means we want people to gather together based on the things they enjoy and are important to them. Essentially, the things you are already doing in your life are the things that can make up your Small Group! Free market leaders form their groups around their gifts or interests. From sports groups to lunch groups, mom groups to student groups, Bible study groups to creative arts groups, our groups are as varied as we are.
We do not want anyone to miss the chance to be in a Small Group
for financial reasons. We have Resurrection Students (Ages 14-18+) Who would love the opportunity to raise funds for their youth activities, or earn community service hours for their school programs like NHS. This option is for Resurrection Church members or attendees who would not otherwise be able to attend a Small Group, and it applies to childcare costs that occur during a Small Group. For more
Groups meet weekly during each season (12 weeks).
We only ask you to commit one season (12 weeks) at a time. After one season your group may continue to meet together for as long as you like or you can choose a completely new group the next season. We were not made to do life alone. God created us for community, so Yes, we hope you are always in a Small Group!
As you're living life, you'll start to notice natural ebbs and flows in the year—learning to anticipate and leverage those different seasons can strengthen different parts our ministry at different times. Here, in North American and Western churches August means back to School craziness for families, December and January bring family time/ traditions, and May, June and July bring wild adventures.
In light of these normal ebbs and flows, September through early
December and February through early May are the most “NORMAL.” At Resurrection Church this is a great time to increase engagement with our small groups. Thus these 12-13 weeks twice a year are times when we are most intentional about launching new groups. We hope you’ll join us!
*Some of us are no longer in these wild seasons of life. There are
Small Groups that meet weekly all throughout the year with hardly any interruptions.
