Global Methodist Church Announces Legislative Committee Assignments for Upcoming Convening General Conference

by Global Methodist Church on July 30, 2024

The Global Methodist Church is pleased to announce that the Transitional Leadership Council (TLC) has approved the legislative committee assignments for the delegates elected to serve at the upcoming convening General Conference in San Jose, Costa Rica, from September 20-26. Delegates were made aware of their assignments today, and the entire list can be viewed here. This list will be updated as needed as changes arise.

There will be seven legislative committees, each consisting of 30 to 65 members, balanced between lay and clergy representatives. These committees will review specific petitions within the subject matter of each committee and make recommendations for the presentation of the petitions to the plenary sessions of the General Conference, where all delegates will vote on each petition after considering the legislative committee’s recommendations.

The Plan of Organization and Covenant of Our Life Together, adopted by the Transitional Leadership Council, establishes a limited agenda for the convening General Conference. It specifies the names of the legislative committees and the topics they will be addressing. Detailed information regarding the committees can be found here.

The seven legislative committees are tasked with thorough reviews and deliberations to ensure that all petitions are considered thoughtfully and prayerfully before being presented to the entire body of delegates. The work of these committees is crucial for the effective governance and future direction of the Global Methodist Church.

For more details on the specific roles and the formation of these committees, please refer to the official document on pages 4-5 of the Plan of Organization and Covenant of Our Life Together.

We look forward to a productive and Spirit-led General Conference in San Jose, Costa Rica, and we thank all delegates and committee members for their dedication and service.
